In big cities I often find nothing in relation to the community and the community fire departments being involved.  This is a sad thing, in that they are inextricably joined.  The separation is something that has for some time needed to be resolved.

One of these solutions, which I've just stumbled upon, is the use of blogging and even twitter.  The Los Angeles Fire Department actually blogs!  In addition to that they twitter any major events @LAFD.  These actively involve anyone with a blackberry, mobile phone, laptop, or standard office building white collar job that involves a computer.  These efforts to get more involved like this are awesome!

Now if we (I don't know who we is yet) can get the Portland Fire Department and surrounding Departments involved that would be awesome!  I mean, seriously, I'm surprised Portland isn't involved already.

I've decided I definitely need to get back in touch, more intensely with the business community of this country.  On that note I went digging through some blogs and other such things I used to read on a regular basis.
