Great Work from Hugh Macleod

Ok, I am not one to laugh out loud while trudging through voluminous stacks of bytes on the Internet, but this was one of the cartoons that got me recently.  Yes, a buckled under the realistic hilariousness of this one.

Just a Logical Thought

Monday, 22 February 2010 10:12 by Adron

Doctors

(A)   The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.

(B)   Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.

(C)   Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Guns

(A)   The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.

(Yes, that's 80 million)

(B)   The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.

(C)   The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.

Statistics courtesy of FBI

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So, technically, doctors are thousands of times more dangerous than gun owners so how about not perpetuating some misleading statement that gun owners are somehow so miraculously dangerous and guns are the bane of society.

If we want to talk about facts, instead of unfettered, unreasonable, illogical, and unsupportable fear then don't tell me that guns need banned.  Simply, banning guns is one of the more unintelligent things someone can state.  I’m not suggesting we should ban any of the things (at least most) that are more dangerous and life threatening than guns.  If someone really cared there are a list of things that are more dangerous in addition to just doctors, such as...

  • The Drug War (which I actually would say lets put a ban on it – get rid of it, it kills more people than the drugs themselves probably)
  • Driving (cars in general)
  • Pools (you know, swimming, it kills thousands per year)
  • Smoking (cigarettes are not your friend)
  • Armed Police (which I would NOT ban, but they do kill a LOT of people)
  • ...and the list goes on and on.
Anyway, this is just frustrating, I’m alive today because I was armed so it kind of hits home when some moron tells me I should be dead.  I like being alive, and am going to stick to that philosophy.

Beautiful Nerds

Saturday, 26 December 2009 12:41 by Adron

I work with nerds, geeks, anti-socialites, and other people of that ilk.  At least, a lot of people like that.  Often these people are the smartest of all humanity.  Think about that sentence for a second.  Yes, these are the top 1% of all humanity.  Even those top 1% of humanity, ought to stop and think about that for a bit.  It is no small fact, and our view of reality is skewed by the fact that we surround ourselves with such people.

Among all these geeks and nerds and such comes a common complaint that I have always found strange.  Why do I find it strange?  Because I run my conversational mouth regularly, among all sorts of people, because part of my nerdiness is I find people strangely interesting.  Even the people I might not prefer the company of.  The complaint resounds though, which is "why are there no geek/nerd girls/boys out there".

The fact is, as with many facts not immediately apparent, is that there are lots of us among us.  The problem is the universal and age old issue of lousy human condition of poor communication with a vibrant dose of awkwardness.

The other tidbit is that one doesn’t always now who the geek or nerd next to them is.  How do you know?  Observe, speak, communicate, work together.  Community, even when it was thought in the past to be strong, has always been a strangely weak aspect of humanity.  Community is there to bridge us.  Modern human, especially in America, has it even more broken and stretched.  Reconnect that and you'll find others even closer than you imagined.

So I leave this entry rambling with simple words that hold answers;  Communicate, speak, interact, work together, participate, involve, and know each other.  That other geek or nerd is right in front of you.

Alright, that’s my sappy, happy, public announcement of 2009.  Back to my normal ramblings of nerd war games, political anti-apathy, and general mental imagery.

For the rest of the Shooting phase any other friendly unit that fires at the illuminated target does not use the Night Fighting special rule. However, a vehicle that uses a searchlight, can be targeted during the following enemy turn, as if the Night Fighting rules were not in effect as the enemy can see the searchlight. See Wargear, pg. 36.
Servo Arm Extra Close Combat attack made at Strength 8 and Initiative 1, ignoring Armour Saves.
Siege Shield Vehicle automatically passes dangerous terrain tests.
Signum See C:SM, pg. 100.
Smoke Launchers Once per game, after completing its move, a vehicle with smoke launchers can trigger them. The vehicle may not fire any of its weapons in the same turn as it used smoke launchers, but will count as obscured in the next enemy Shooting Phase, receiving a 4+ cover save (see WH40K 5E, pg. 62).
Terminator Armour Relentless; Cannot perform a Sweeping Advance; 2+ Armour Save and a 5+ Invulnerable Save; May always start the game in reserve and arrive using the Deep Strike rules even if it is not part of the mission being played; count as two models for transport capacity and may not embark on Rhinos or Razorbacks.

War Games Terrain, Asteroids, and More

Friday, 4 December 2009 21:21 by adron

This is a video from www.miniwargaming.com.  This crew puts together some great videos and such for model war gaming.  Really impressive.  If you want to check out more, hit up their site.  They also have some decent deals on 40k and other models also.  More on my army, the Aurora Chapter coming soon.

Warhammer 40k Armies

Monday, 7 September 2009 16:21 by Adron

So I’ve got enough for a 1250+pt army.  This is how I’ve broken things out so far.

The base Black Reach Army:  575 pts

Class Unit Points
HQ Space Marine Captain 100
  Bolt Gun
  Power Sword

Troop Tactical Marine Squad 90
  Sergeant - Power Sword
  9 Space Marines 80

Elite Terminator Squad 200
Sergeant - Storm Bolters + Power Sword
4 Terminators - Storm Bolters - Power Fists

Elite Dreadnought 105
  Multi Melta
  CC Weapon
    575

The base army:  1000 pts

Class Unit Points
HQ Space Marine Captain 100
  Bolt Gun
  Power Sword

Troop 1 Tactical Marine Squad 90
  Sergeant - Power Sword
  9 Space Marines 80
  + Flamer
  + multi melta gun
Troop 1 Transport Rhino 35

Troop 2 Scout Squad 75
  Sergeat Telion 50
  4 Scouts
  + Sniper Rifle x4
  + Missile Launcher 10

Elite Terminator Assault Squad 200
Sergeant - Storm Bolters + Power Sword
4 Terminators - Storm Bolters - Power Fists
  + Chainfist 5
Heavy Land Raider Redeemer 240
  + Multi Melta 10

Elite Dreadnought 105
  Multi Melta
  CC Weapon
    1000

The base + extended armor:  1250 pts

Class Unit Points
HQ Space Marine Captain 100
  Bolt Gun
  Power Sword

Troop 1 Tactical Marine Squad 90
  Sergeant - Power Sword
  9 Space Marines 80
  + Flamer
  + multi melta gun
Troop 1 Transport Rhino 35

Troop 2 Scout Squad 75
  Sergeat Telion 50
  4 Scouts
  + Sniper Rifle x4
  + Missile Launcher 10

Elite Terminator Assault Squad 200
Sergeant - Storm Bolters + Power Sword
4 Terminators - Storm Bolters - Power Fists
  + Chainfist 5
Heavy Land Raider Redeemer 240
  + Multi Melta 10

Elite Dreadnought 105
  Multi Melta
  CC Weapon

Heavy Support Space Sergeant Chronus 70
Heavy Support Predator 60
  Twin Lascannon 45
  Side Lascannons 60
  Hunter Killer Missile 10

    1245

Now the question is, what to extend my force to the 1500 pt army?  I did purchase 10 metal assault marines (w/ jet packs and all), but am not sure I want to extend the forces to 1500 with them.  What I am thinking of is adding the following to my primary 1245 list above.

Elite Devestator Squad 90
  Multi-Melta 15
  Sergeant w/ Metla Bombs 5
Transport Razorback 40

Heavy Support Predator 60
  Twin Lascannon 45

I however feel somewhat inclined to add an HQ Unit, but the temptation to add more heavy weaponry and such seems more valuable instead of high point individual units.  The Predator with twin Lascannon and the remaining regular armament seem more valuable than a strong HQ character.  Added that I have enough remaining points to pick up the Devestator Squad with Multi-Melta & Melta Bombs for the sergeant with a Razorback makes my armies mechanized assault capabilities pretty serious.

Any other suggestions or ideas fellow combatants?
